Why we love this wine
Narrowly saved from extinction; the Morenillo had almost disappeared. After the dreaded grape aphid had shut down almost all European vineyards at the end of the 19th century, there was little enthusiasm for this grape. Until Carmen and Manolo decided in the late 90s to bring this unique breed back to its origin: Terra Alta. They saw the added value in properties that in the past were still regarded as defects. The Morenillo is noble and well structured, as befits a real Templar. Everything about the grape is grand: the trunk, the shoots, the leaves and the bunches.
What makes this winery so special
Celler Bàrbara Forés bears the name of the great-great-grandmother of winemaker Carmen Ferrer. The profession has been in her family for over a hundred years; passed on from mother to daughter. Together with husband Manolo, Carmen runs the winery in Terra Alta, which symbolizes deep respect for this long-held tradition. However, these pioneers themselves are anything but traditional! Never mind their wines. In 2013, daughter Pili joined the team. Together they make the most adventurous varieties, with as little intervention as possible. The trusted foundation for years: the Garnatxa Blanca.
Job's Tasting Notes
Notes of blackberry, thyme and freshly ground pepper. Rich in intense flavors of ripe black fruit. The mouthfeel is velvety soft. 9 months of maturation in amphora jars (qvevri) makes El Templari wonderfully round. The expression 'vermell' refers to the clear dark red color of the wine.
