Gran Autocton Negre
Love red wine and want to try something new? Or just a smaller fan, but the door has not yet been completely closed? This Gran Autocton Negre is exactly what you don't expect. Made from a relatively unknown Catalan grape variety. Therefore nice and light and with a portion of complexity that even many wine connoisseurs astonish.
Grape variety: 100% sumoll
Soil: Lime and clay
maturation: 4 months aging in oak barrels and clay amphora pots
Sulfite: 71 mg / L
Why we love this wine
The Sumoll is originally Catalan, but was not often used for red wine. Yet this dark red, egg-shaped grape certainly does not lack personality. Typical Mediterranean red wines are often full-bodied and firm, but the Sumoll makes them a lot lighter. Nicely aromatic and with a spicy profile. Full of aromas that reveal the great potential of this wine. The potential to develop over time aromas typically found only in the most expensive wines.
What makes this winery so special
Young winemaker Albert Jané does not like to sit still. His family has been in the wine world since 1914, but Albert decided to leave his home base of Baix Penedès and forge his own path. First in the direction of Montsant, with winery Acústic Celler. Later to Priorat, in the form of Rhythm Celler. Autocton Celler is the return to its roots; to the family estate in La Bisbal del Penedés. Here the vineyards stand on stony and chalky soil that is characteristic of the region. Albert works passionately with native varieties: Sumoll, Xarel.lo and the famous Malvasía de Sitges.
Job's Tasting Notes
In terms of profile, the Gran Autocton Negre fits perfectly into the picture of Mediterranean wines. Plenty of complex flavors to discover. Aromas range from black and red fruits, rosemary and thyme to dried leaves and freshly ground pepper. In the mouth surprisingly light and with considerable acidity. Tannins are present, but soft.
